Covelli Center to Host 15 Men’s Volleyball Matches in 2020

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s volleyball program will waste no time in christening its new competition home, the Covelli Center, jumpstarting the 2020 season with five consecutive home matches spanning Jan. 4-17. The complete ’20 regular season campaign comprises of 28 total matches, including 15 contested at the Buckeyes’ new address, 2640 Fred Taylor Drive.

Ohio State opens up the new digs by welcoming in North Greenville, Urbana, Saint Francis, Lincoln Memorial and King before competing in the fifth annual ‘Big Ten-Pac-12 Challenge’ Jan. 24-26 on Penn State’s campus. The Buckeyes take on UCLA and USC while in Happy Valley. Both the Trojans and Bruins are members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) for men’s volleyball.

Back to Pennsylvania for Ohio State the following weekend, making stops at Saint Francis (Jan. 31) and returning to face the Nittany Lions (Feb. 1).

Ohio State then hosts a pair of Big West Conference foes in UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State for matches on back-to-back nights (Feb. 7-8).

The 14-match MIVA schedule, which begins Feb. 13 against defending league champion Lewis, is split right in the middle with a three-match break against Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) adversaries from March 8-12. Another MIVA power in Loyola Chicago bookends the MIVA slate, serving as the regular season finale on Apr. 11. Ohio State, Lewis and Loyola Chicago have combined to win the last 16 conference crowns (10 for the Buckeyes).

Postseason play is set for April 18-25 (MIVA Tournament) and May 1-9 (NCAA Tournament).
