COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Colleen Dean and juniors Sarah Miller and Alex DeLuca have been named captains of the 2013 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Tuesday.

“We are excited about naming three captains for the 2013 season,” Fagan said. “All three captains bring great competitive experience to the team and they each have their own very unique leadership styles. Both Colleen and Sarah are returning All-Americans and Alex was the most consistent performer on both floor and bars last season.”

Miller earned second-team All-America honors on balance beam and floor exercise last season while Dean garnered second-team All-America honors on floor exercise. The duo became the seventh and eighth All-Americans in Ohio State women’s gymnastics history. It is the first time the Buckeyes have had multiple All-Americans in the same season. DeLuca is a two-year letterwinnner who posted career bests of 9.850 on bars and 9.875 on floor exercise a year ago.

“All three gymnasts lead by example and I am excited to watch their continued development this season,” Fagan added. “We know the challenges that lie ahead of us to get back to the NCAA Championships and the team has selected ‘Challenge Accepted’ as their team motto this season.”

The 2013 Buckeyes open the season at Bowling Green Jan. 5 and will be at home at St. John Arena five times, including the opener against Iowa Jan. 19.
