COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior midfielder Casey Cole has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Cole put on record breaking performances this past week for the Buckeye offense. Against then-ranked No. 19 Boston University, she scored the first two goals of the game for Ohio State, putting the team in a position to pick up a 4-2 win over the Terriers. This past weekend, she recorded two goals in the win over Ball State and one goal in the 5-0 victory over Lehigh.
Cole has scored at least one goal in three consecutive games which is the longest active scoring streak on the team. She has also doubled her single-season record of two goals from last season to five goals so far this season. Coming into the 2018 campaign, she had four career goals and has now scored five goals in the first six games of the season.
Cole is the first Buckeye to receive a conference weekly honor this season. Along with junior Esther Clotet and senior Kelsey Nolan, she received Big Ten preseason recognition. Her last weekly honor was during her freshman year when she was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 13, 2015. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week nod for the Buckeyes since 2015.
Ohio State opens conference play at home on Friday against No. 5 Penn State.
