COLUMBUS, OhioAfter leading the Ohio State women’s tennis team to Big Ten regular season and tournament titles and the NCAA Sweet 16, head coach Melissa Schaub and associate head coach Adam Cohen have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with Midwest region awards. Schaub is the Wilson ITA Coach of the Year for the region, while Cohen is the region’s ITA Assistant Coach of the Year.

This is the third ITA Midwest Region Coach of the Year award for Schaub, who was also honored in 2016 and 2017. She went on to earn national coach of the year accolades in 2017. Cohen, who wrapped up his seventh year on the Ohio State staff in 2021, was also recognized as the region’s assistant coach of the year in 2016. As the head coach of the men’s team at Binghamton, Cohen was twice named the ITA Northeast Region Coach of the Year (2010, 2013).

Schaub, who has been at the helm of the Buckeyes for nine seasons, was also voted the Big Ten Coach of the Year after she and Cohen led the Buckeyes to a 15-1 B1G record and conference co-championship in 2021. No. 1 seed Ohio State then claimed the Big Ten Tournament title, topping No. 2 seed Michigan in the final.

Ohio State was selected to host NCAA Tournament first and second round matches for the third time in program history and defeated UIC and Vanderbilt in Columbus to reach the NCAA Round of 16, where the Buckeyes fell to eventual national champion Texas.

The Buckeyes, who earned a spot in February’s ITA National Team Indoor Championship, ended the year 23-4 overall, the third-most wins in program history, extended the program’s streak of NCAA Tournament berths to seven and finished the year ranked 12th. Irina Cantos Siemers earned All-America honors in singles and was selected for the NCAA Singles Championship, with Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen earning a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Cantos Siemers and Boulais both were All-Big Ten selections.

Off the court, 10 Buckeyes were named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes, with five earning Academic All-Big Ten accolades.
