Parker Fleming is in his third season as Ohio State University’s special team’s coordinator. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day named Fleming to the position in February of 2021. He had previously worked on Ohio State’s staff for three seasons as a quality control coach with the special teams units (2018-20).

Ohio State ranked 16th in punting in 2022 (45.3). The Buckeyes ranked among the Top 25 teams in two special teams categories in 2021: 20th in kickoff return defense with an average of 17.8 yards allowed; and 22nd in kickoff returns (24.5).

Fleming has worked two different stints at Ohio State, beginning in 2012-13 as a graduate assistant before returning in 2018 to serve as a quality control coach for special teams. In 2018, his first season back, the Buckeyes’ special teams unit ranked No. 2 in kickoff return defense, No. 6 in net punting, No. 8 in punt return defense and No. 10 in blocked kicks.

In between his positions with the Buckeyes, Fleming worked at James Madison University as the wide receivers coach (2014-15) and then at Texas State University where he served as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2017. In 2016, he was the wide receivers and special teams coach at Texas State.

During his time on Ohio State’s coaching staff (2012-13 and 2018-present), the Buckeyes have a record of 68-7 with three Big Ten titles, six Big Ten East Division championships, two Rose Bowl victories, a Sugar Bowl championship, two College Football Playoff appearances and one CFP National Championship Game.

Fleming is a native of Atlanta, Ga., and attended Decatur High School. He is a 2010 graduate of Presbyterian College with a degree in political science. He is married to the former Virginia Waldron, who is from Clinton, S.C.
