Alma Mater Ohio State '14

Megan Smith, who served as a student assistant coach for the Buckeyes in 2014, is the team’s Director of Operations. Smith finished her playing career in 2013, starting all 56 games for Ohio State at third base. Over her four year career, she played in 206 games and hit .240 with 140 hits, 93 RBI, 80 runs scored and 14 home runs.

“Megan was a great player but she is an even better person,” said head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly. “Her work ethic, selflessness and positive attitude makes her an invaluable member of our staff. Her involvement with our day-to-day administrative duties will free up the coaches to focus on recruiting and player development. This newly-created position is also indicative of the department’s commitment to providing the program with what we need to be successful at the highest level.”

Smith came to Ohio State from Fullerton, Calif., and saw immediate playing time as a freshman in 2010. She started 38 games for a veteran-laden team that went 39-14 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Over the next three years, Smith started in and played every game for the Buckeyes, making her one of the most experienced players to ever don the Scarlet and Gray.

Smith graduated in 2014 with a degree in family financial services from the College of Education and Human Ecology. She married Spencer Smith, a member of the Buckeye football team from 2007-11, in December 2013.
