position Defensive Graduate Assistant
Koy McFarland joined the defensive coaching staff at Ohio State in January of 2022 and will be a graduate assistant this season working with the Ohio State linebackers. He comes to the Buckeyes from Oklahoma State University where he was the team’s assistant linebackers coach.
McFarland spent three seasons with the Cowboys and is familiar with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ scheme. In fact, when Knowles left Oklahoma State to join the Ohio State staff following the 2021 season, McFarland stepped in the coached the Cowboys’ linebackers in the Fiesta Bowl vs. Notre Dame.
Prior to Oklahoma State, McFarland spent three years as a defensive graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech University. He began his coaching career in 2016 as the offensive graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
McFarland began is playing career at Copiah Lincoln Community College before finishing at Arkansas at Monticello. He was a captain for both programs and played wide receiver. He is a native of Nacogdoches, Texas.
