Joseph Pipia joined the Buckeye rowing staff in 2004.  In his 18 years at OSU he has been part of nine Big Ten, four South/Central Regional and three NCAA championship teams.  Prior to becoming the boatman at Ohio State, Pipia had been the boatman at Fordham University in New York as well as Nereid Boat Club in Rutherford, New JerseyHe also assisted the 2000 Indian Olympic Team during selection camp for its inaugural appearance in rowing at the 2000 Sydney games.

Pipia began rowing at Nutley High School in New Jersey where he was named captain in 1997, his senior year.  He rowed collegiately as a lightweight at Rutgers and later with the Ohio State Crew Club.  He also trained at Nereid Boat Club, North East development camp and the Greater Columbus Rowing Association.

Pipia graduated from Ohio State University in 2010 with a BA in Photojournalism.  His collegiate course work was eclectic and included studies in engineering, economics, business and art.

When not at the boathouse, he enjoys hiking with wife, Lara, and son, Xander, bicycling, kite flying, gardening, tending to his bees or enjoying delicious food.
