Jerry Emig is in his 28th year in the sports information/athletic communications profession, his 19th year at Ohio State and his 12th as the core media relations contact for the Ohio State football program.
Jerry is experienced in the communications areas of public relations, media relations, community relations, reputation management and event management. His work experience includes positions with three respected universities (Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Temple University and Ohio State), a private public relations firm (Paul Werth Associates), and two state commissions (the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents).
Jerry is a 1983 graduate of Murray State University with a degree in communications, and he has a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio State (1986).
His career highlights include media relations responsibilities for Ohio State’s run to the first College Football Playoff national championship in 2014, 19 Ohio State vs. Michigan football games, three Final Fours, six Big Ten football championship games, four Rose Bowls, five Sugar Bowls, two BCS national championship games, four Fiesta Bowls and one Orange Bowl. He has also worked dozens of NCAA and conference tournament basketball games, travelled on two-week trips with basketball teams to Japan and South Africa and attended hundreds of football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and field, and swimming and diving events while traveling to nearly 90 different universities.
The Ohio State football sports information staff received a Super 11 Award from the Football Writers Association of America in 2017 for SID excellence.
Emig, who enjoys a “good sports information day” and tweets good news about the Buckeyes at @BuckeyeNotes, and his wife, Jody, reside in Dublin. The couple has three children: daughter Shelby and son, Roman, who are both students at Ohio State, and a 19-year-old son A.J.
