Jen McIntyre

Jen McIntyre was named associate head coach for the Ohio State softball program in July 2019. McIntyre spent the last five seasons as the head coach at the University of Connecticut.

McIntyre’s first full season at Ohio State was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, her Buckeye defensive unit finished first in the Big Ten and fourth nationally in double plays per game (0.60) per game. Ohio State also ranked in the top half of the conference yet again in fielding percentage (.969). In 2022, McIntyre helped the Buckeyes return to the NCAA Tournament with its most wins (36) in the last 12 seasons.

While at the helm for the Huskies, McIntyre took the program from the bottom of the Big East Conference to a contender in the American Athletic Conference. She coached her 2019 UConn team to its best season since joining the AAC. The Huskies tallied eight wins in conference play, the most in program history, and totaled 20 overall victories for the second consecutive season. McIntyre guided five players to All-AAC honors, the most during her tenure and in program history, and had seven total AAC weekly award recognitions.

Prior to the breakout season in 2019, the Huskies won 20 games with a young team in 2018 under McIntyre – one that included six freshmen and eight sophomore players. It was the first 20-win campaign for UConn with McIntyre’s guidance and the program’s first since 2013. The Huskies played 26 games against RPI Top 75 teams, as part of a strength of schedule ranked No. 54 in all of Division I.

McIntyre has been part of coaching staffs that have made seven NCAA Tournament appearances since 2001. She served as the associate head coach at Boston University for the 2014 campaign. With McIntyre’s help, the Terriers won the Patriot League tournament and qualified for the NCAA regionals. Her peers recognized her efforts by selecting her as the 2014 NFCA National Assistant Coach of the Year.

McIntyre joined the Terriers after spending 12 years (2002-13) on the Penn State coaching staff, including her final three as the associate head coach. During her tenure, the Nittany Lions reached six NCAA tournaments, highlighted by a regional final appearance in 2011.

Twenty-one of McIntyre’s recruits at Penn State were named to All-Big Ten teams 33 times, while seven were placed on All-Region squads with three becoming NFCA All-Americans. In 2013, senior outfielder Cassidy Bell became PSU’s first-ever First Team All-American after batting a program-record .456 at the plate and smashing 20 home runs.

McIntyre spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons at Indiana as the second assistant coach. During her time in Bloomington, three players earned All-Big Ten honors.

A 1998 graduate of Penn State with a degree in kinesiology, McIntyre was the starting third baseman for the Nittany Lions from 1995-98. A 1997 CoSIDA Verizon Academic All-America selection, she ranks sixth all-time with 42 career stolen bases. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection was voted team MVP as a junior and team captain as a senior.

In May 2001, McIntyre earned her master’s degree in kinesiology/sports management and athletic administration at Indiana.
