COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State spirit squads took their talents to Orlando this past weekend and came home with top 10 finishes in both cheer and dance.

The cheerleaders, one of eight teams who received an automatic bid to the finals, finished ninth overall, placing ahead of perennial SEC power Tennessee and higher than any Big Ten team at the competition. Alabama took home first place, snapping Kentucky’s three-year run at the top.

The dance team took home an eighth-place finish in pom and 11th in jazz. Minnesota placed first in both jazz and pom.

The cheerleaders who competed included Andrew Blankenship, Cassandra Benfield, Cassandra Bernard, Christina Boulding, Samuel Desalvatore, Abby Disabato, Ian Henschen, Allison Humbert, Michael Jameson, Aaron Lamanacusa, Joshua Leaming, Kennah Mason, Brittany Maynard, Jamal Niles, Gordan Rankin, Ben Schmidt, Rebecca Stomps, Ally Taulbee and Nathan Wise.

Dancers included Melissa McGhee, Nicole Toland, Kate Lorenzetti, Shayla Koester, Jamie Moore, Melissa Heintschel, Caitlin Riley, Sarah Tanko, Marissa Houdek, Emma Dickman, Ashley Peck, Tessie Kernell, Natalie D’Onofrio, Katherine Simmons, Kaitlin Cuthsaw and Erica Stratz.

ESPN will air the competition on its family of networks this Spring.
