COLUMBUS, Ohio – Chase Buchanan, a sophomore on the No. 4 Ohio State men’s tennis team, was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week the conference announced Tuesday.

The honor brings the Buckeyes’ total to seven this season, which leads the league. Buchanan, a New Albany, Ohio, native has four such honors in 2010 to lead the Scarlet and Gray. Teammates Dino Marcan has two accolades (Jan. 19 and Feb. 16) and Justin Kronauge earned the honor Feb. 2.

Ranked 23rd in the nation, Buchanan paired with Marcan at No. 1 doubles to defeat Purdue’s Thomas Wilson and Slavko Bijelica, 8-2, March 12 at the Varsity Tennis Center to open Big Ten play. Buchanan then faced Bijelica at No. 1 singles where the Buckeye lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory to improve his record at the top of the singles lineup to 10-1. He is 14-4 overall on the season. With the wins, Buchanan not only helped the Scarlet and Gray defeat the No. 60 Boilermakers, 7-0, but also win their 100th straight home match.

Ohio State will look to extend the streak Thursday when it hosts Detroit Mercy at 5 p.m. The match is scheduled to be played at the Buckeyes’ outdoor venue, Stickney Tennis Center. Check back with for any updates and changes.
