COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio State sophomore goalkeeper Chad Brown (So., Rockford, Ill.) has been selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the Big Ten announced Monday. Brown recorded four saves and smothered several Michigan State scoring opportunities in a 3-1 win over the Spartans Sunday. Brown is the third Buckeye to receive the honor this season.

Brown, 6-3-0 on the season, now has 20 saves to go with four shutouts on the year. He has allowed just one goal in his last four games.

“Chad has really stepped up his play of late and is becoming more and more confident with each game,” John Bluem, Ohio State head coach said. “This is the third straight game he has started and came away with the win. If he continues to improve and play the way he has we are going to be a difficult team to beat. We are very pleased he is being honored for his performance.”

The Buckeyes now have won five-consecutive matches, improving their record to 7-3-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Big Ten.

Ohio State will be back in action Wednesday when it takes on the Louisville Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. The team then will travel to State College, Pa. Sunday for an important Big Ten battle with Penn State. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
