CB Kendall Sheffield Selected Early in Round 4 by Atlanta

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield, a fourth-year junior from Missouri City, Texas, was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Sheffield, taken with the 111th overall pick, is the sixth Buckeye cornerback selected in the draft in the past five years, and he is the sixth Buckeye taken so far in this draft.

Six Buckeye CBs in Last 5 Drafts
2019: Kendall Sheffield – 4th round, Atlanta
2018: Denzel Ward – 1st, Cleveland
2017: Marshon Lattimore – 1st, New Orleans
2017: Gareon Conley – 1st, Oakland
2016: Eli Apple – 1st, New York Giants
2015: Doran Grant – 4th, Pittsburgh

Sheffield had a two-season career with the Buckeyes after transferring from Blinn College, in Brenham, Texas, in the spring of 2017. He was a starting cornerback for all of 2018 and was an honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference performer after starting all 14 games and recording team highs in both pass break-ups with eight and passes defended with 10.

Sheffield, who recorded interceptions this year vs. Rutgers and Minnesota, had a career-best five solo tackles in the Rose Bowl victory over Washington.

His arrival at Ohio State from Blinn coincided with the program winning back-to-back Big Ten championships in 2017 and 2018. He made a total of 17 starts while playing in all 28 games the past two seasons.

Sheffield has speed. In the summer of 2018 he was selected by NFL.com as the fastest player in college football, this after he broke the Ohio State school record and the French Field House indoor record in the 60-meter dash in February 2018 with a time of 6.663.

In 2017, Sheffield was second on the team – to Denzel Ward the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft – in pass break-ups with nine. He recorded 28 PBUs and 32 passes defended in his three seasons on the collegiate level.

Sheffield was majoring in human development and family studies when he elected to forego his senior season and make himself available for the 2019 NFL Draft.
