COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s volleyball head coach Kevin Burch added five student-athletes for the 2022 campaign. Kyle Teune, Cole Young, Ben Braun, Grant Strong and Jason Kozak signed National Letters of Intent to suit up for the Buckeyes.
“The ceiling of this class and the potential impact they could have on the program has our staff and student-athletes incredibly excited,” Burch said. “All five bring special talents to the court, along with high character that fits our Buckeye family perfectly. They understand the unique opportunity we have to be Buckeyes and they are passionate about making a lasting impact on our program’s tradition of excellence.”
Kyle Teune | 6-6 | Outside Hitter | Downers Grove, Ill. | Timothy Christian HS | Sports Performance
Helped Timothy Christian win regional and sectional championships in 2019…Two-time captain…All-Illinois Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
From Coach Burch: “Coming from Downers Grove, Kyle keeps our program’s strong Chicagoland connection going. Kyle is a proven winner on the court and has proven to be one of the best outside hitters in the Midwest and nationally. Like the others in this class, his success doesn’t end on the court. Kyle is a very bright young man that has worked hard for his success and we look forward to seeing him do the same while in Scarlett and Gray.”
Cole Young | 6-10 | Middle Blocker | Powell, Ohio | Olentangy Liberty HS | Vanguard Volleyball
2019 Ohio Capital Conference Honorable Mention.
From Coach Burch: “Boys volleyball has grown immensely in the state of Ohio. With that, we are consistently seeing high-level talent come through the club and high school ranks. With a very athletic, 6-9 frame, Cole is a prime example of that. He picked up the game late but has shown a notable ability to learn quickly along with a strong drive to improve. It has been a lot of fun to see his impressive and expedited growth into one of the top middles in the class. We are eager to see Cole’s growth continue when he gets to campus next fall and thrilled to add another great fit to the Buckeye family.”
Ben Braun | 6-10 | Middle Blocker | Mirage, Calif. | Palm Desert HS | OOVC
Played club ball for OOVC for the last two years.
From Coach Burch: “Passion, drive and intelligence are just some of the many special qualities Ben will bring to this program. Ben will add size to our roster but his creativity, work ethic and personality go far beyond that. He is a special addition to this program in many ways. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he’ll make on and off the court.”
Grant Strong | 6-2 | Libero | Palm Harbor, Fla. | Palm Harbor HS | 352 Elite
2018 USAV HP U17 National Champion…2018 USAV BJNC All-Tournament Team…2020 U.S. Men’s Junior A1 National Training Team Program.
From Coach Burch: “We are always looking to bring in the best of the best and Grant certainly fits that bill. Grant is one of, if not the best, liberos in his class with years of indoor and beach playing experience. Grant has been passionate about being a Buckeye since he stepped foot on campus. He is aware of what this great university offers but he’s especially aware of what it means to be a part of the men’s volleyball brotherhood. Grant is a Buckeye through and through and we know that will show in the impact he makes on this program.”
Jason Kozak | 6-6 | Middle Blocker | Fremont, Calif. | Washington HS | MVVC
2017 All-MVAL Second Team…2018 All-MVAL First Team…Won bronze medals at the 2016 13s Club and 2019 16s Open National Championships with MVVC.
From Coach Burch: “Experience and versatility in this game can go a long way and Jason brings both to the table. Jason is a very bright, selfless young man that understands his strengths and how to use them to best help those around him. We’re excited to see the impact of his selflessness, hard work, experience and versatility.”
