The 2018 NC Rifle Championships kicked off today in Charleston. The Bucks were heading into this year’s competition with a laser-like focus.
The smallbore competition took place today in McAlister Field House at The Citadel. The Buckeyes’ performance kept them steady with where they were ranked coming into the competition, as they finished tied for seventh after their performance today.
Senior captain Joshua Black set the tone for the team in his final team smallbore performance, shooting an individual score of 581, going an impressive 99/100 on his last string of smallbore standing. Right by his side was sophomore Jacob Buchanan, who also shot a 581. Sophomore Rhiann Travis came in with a 576, followed by senior Drew Cheezum and freshman Elizabeth Dutton, who both fired a pair of 572s. The team’s aggregate score was a 2310, allowing them to tie Nebraska for seventh place on the day.
There were a total of 44 shooters in the individual rankings, and the first Buckeye to make a mark on the list is Jacob Buchanan, sitting in at number 16. Following closely is senior Josh Black at 17. Rhiann Travis came in at 33, followed by Drew Cheezum (41) and Liz Dutton (42).

The Buckeyes will be back in action tomorrow to compete in air rifle and individual competition.
