The Ohio State softball team began its fall schedule Saturday in Kent, Ohio, as day one of the Kent State Fall Invitational got underway at the Allerton Sports Complex. The Buckeyes posted a 2-1 record on the day, topping Ashland, 6-0, in the opener before falling to host Kent State, 9-1, in game two. Ohio State then defeated Cleveland State, 10-0 in its third and final game of the afternoon.

In the win over Ashland, sophomore Jamee Juarez struck out nine hitters in six innings of work as the Buckeyes scored four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth inning. A trio of Buckeyes had two hits each, including senior Meghan Rowlands, who was 2-for-2, senior Jennifer Johnson, who was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI, and freshman Brittany Vanderink, who added two RBI.

The Buckeyes collected 11 hits in game two vs. Kent State, but the host Golden Flashes produced 14 hits and thwarted several OSU scoring chances. Senior Ashley Cutcliff was 2-for-3 with a double, while freshman Liz Caputo was 2-for-4. Freshman Nicole Gragson suffered the loss, while junior Andrea Tribuzi came on in relief for the second consecutive game.

Ohio State rebounded with a convincing win over Cleveland State in the final game of the day as junior Chelsea Baker tossed a three-hit, five-strikeout shutout. Sophomore Christina Douglas was 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double. Caputo was 3-for-5, Vanderink was 2-for-2 with two RBI and junior Nicole Lancaster was 2-for-4. Junior Stacy Hibma smacked a two-out, full-count, bases loaded double in the first inning. Ohio State will face Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State Sunday.
