COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (4-0) women’s volleyball squad won the Tribe Invitational with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21) victory over host William & Mary (3-1) in Williamsburg, Va. Saturday evening. Buckeye Katie Dull posted a match-high 22.5 points with 19 kills, two ace serves, a solo block and an assist block. Erin Skipper had a team-high 19.5 points for the Tribe with 19 kills and an assist block.

After a Skipper kill gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead, kills from Dull and Kristen Dozier and a William & Mary error put OSU ahead, 3-1. At 4-2, two kills from Skipper, an OSU error and a Jordyn Moloney ace serve put the Tribe up, 6-4. Back-to-back kill from Dull tied the set at six. An OSU error and a Lindsay Kresch kill gave William & Mary an 8-6 lead. An Ashley Hughes kill cut the margin to one at 8-7 but a four-point Tribe run gave William & Mary a 12-7 lead. Kills from Katie McCarney and Lindsay Kresch made it 24-17 and set point for the Tribe. A Lindsey Pflugner ace serve closed the set at 25-17 to give William & Mary a 1-0 lead in the match. The Tribe hit .220 for the set to .077 for the Buckeyes.

Tied at six in set two, two Tribe errors and a Dull ace serve gave Ohio State a 9-6 lead. A Buckeye error and a Kresch kill cut the margin to one at 9-8. Three consecutive kills from Anna Szerszen took the lead to 12-8. Ohio State held a 23-20 lead when a Tribe error made it 24-20 and set point for Ohio State. A Buckeye error stopped the set point at 24-21. Ohio State won the set, 25-21, with a Dull kill to tie the game at 1-1. Ohio State hit .263 for the set to .140 for the Tribe.

Buckeye kills from Kelli Barhorst and Dull opened set three. After two OSU errors and three by William & Mary Ohio State held a 5-2 lead. A Dull kill made the lead four at 6-2. A Tribe kill by Lauren Powell and three Buckeye errors tied the set at six. At nine-all, an OSU error gave William & Mary a 10-9 lead. Errors by both teams made it 11-10. Ohio State scored the next six points to open a 16-11 lead. The run began with a kill and ace serve from Emily Danks. A Dull solo block and kill, a Danks ace serve and a Kristen Dozier kill completed the run. With the Tribe trailing, 20-15, a Buckeye error and a Powell kill cut the margin to three at 20-17. At 23-20, a Dozier-Betsy Hone block made it 24-20 and set point for Ohio State. A Buckeye error stopped the set point at 24-21. A William & Mary service error ended the set at 25-21 to give the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead in the match. Ohio State hit .179 for the set to .148 for the Tribe.

A Danks kill and a Tribe error gave Ohio State a 2-0 lead in set four. A kill from Skipper cut the margin to one at 2-1. A Dull kill and two from Dozier gave the Buckeyes a 5-1 lead. At 6-2, a kill from Skipper, a Powell-Katie McCarney block and a Buckeye error cut the lead to one at 6-5. A Dull kill and her ace serve along with a Tribe error made it 9-5. The Buckeyes held the lead to reach match point at 24-20 with a kill from Danks. A McCarney kill stopped the match point at 24-21. Ohio State won the set, 25-21, with a kill from Dozier to win the match, 3-1. The Buckeyes hit .227 for the set to .178 for William & Mary.

For the match, Ohio State hit .188 to .173 for William & Mary. The Buckeyes edged the Tribe, 50-48 in kills while each squad posted four ace serves. The Tribe gave up 14 service errors to 13 for the Buckeyes. Defensively, Ohio State had a 79-66 margin in digs with OSU’s Dull and Chelsea Noble sharing match-high honors with 18 each. Each team posted five team blocks with OSU’s Dozier (3 assist blocks) and Ginny Bray (2 solos, one assist block) for the Tribe sharing match-high honors with three each. Moloney recorded a match-high 27 assists in the match with OSU’s Betsy Hone collecting 36.

Ohio State placed three players on the all-tournament with Noble, Dull and Dozier. Dull was named the most valuable player. Others named to the all-tournament team included William & Mary’s Erin Skipper and Ginny Bray, Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Christine Edwards, Elyse Grassmuch of Rider and Tiffany Mellette of North Carolina A&T.

The Buckeyes continue on the road next week when they play in the Colorado State Hilton Classic in Ft. Collins, Colo. Ohio State will play host Colorado State at 7 p.m. MT Friday, Sept. 4 and Georgia Southern at 10 a.m. MT and Texas Arlington at 5 p.m. MT Saturday, Sept. 5
