Camden, N.J. – The Ohio State women’s rowing team won nine races on Saturday on the Cooper River in a double dual against Yale and Harvard to open up the 2018 season.
The Second Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight swept both of their races for opening day while the First Varsity Eight took down Harvard in its afternoon race.
The Second Varsity Eight that consisted of Emma Warns, Leonie Heuer, Kaylee Koker, Alexandra Northdurft, Maddie Perrett,Chelsea Harpool, Sierra Cydrus, Ashley Saba and Kimberleigh Warriner won its morning race against Yale by eight seconds as the clocked a time of 6:40.1. In the afternoon session against Harvard, the 2V8 had another impressive showing defeating Harvard with a open-water difference of 12.2 seconds.
The First Varsity Four of Sophie Blair, Anne Jachthuber, Sierra Tiede, Stephanie Gase and Magdalena Bravo won their morning race over Yale by nearly nine seconds with a readout of 7:26.3. Returning to the water in the afternoon for a showdown with Harvard, the 1V4 notched a 15-plus second win over Harvard with a time of 7:25.5.
The Second Varsity Four – Helen Sudhoff, Maddie Frendberg, Bianca Piloseno,Rachel Serafy and Rachel Parker – won a highly contested morning race against Yale with a final time of 7:29.4 to edge Yale by 3.3 seconds. The same five returned to the boat a couple hours later and knocked off Harvard (8:03.8) with a time of 7:40.6.
Mary Thomas, Julia Miklasevich, Hannah Hites, Kristin Hoying, Kendell Massier,Madison Sheahan, Grace Libben, Michayla Binkley and Olivia Kwiecinski made up the Third Varsity Eight that swept both of its races over Yale and Harvard. The 3V8 clocked a winning time of 6:47.0 against Yale and a winning time of 6:55.6 against Harvard.
The First Varsity Eight – Anjali Fernandes, Ida Kruse, Rose Carr, Ida Petersen, Cassandra Johnson, Rachel Engel, Alessandra Montesano and Bridget Schodorf – rebounded well from a loss in the morning session against Yale. The 1V8 registered a time of 6:35.3 to end the day on a high note against Harvard (6:46.6).
Ohio State will host its first home regatta of 2018 next Saturday (March 31) at the Griggs Reservoir.
