Morgantown, W.Va. – The 18th-ranked Ohio State women’s soccer team posted a hard-fought 2-0 road victory over No. 25 West Virginia at WVU’s Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium Thursday night.
Ohio State finally broke a scoreless tie in the 72nd minute, when a shot off a corner kick in a crowd by Chelsy Swackhamer just flicked past WVU goalkeeper Sara Keane into the net. It was Swackhamer’s second goal of the season; the assist came from Kiiri Kuld.
In the 89th minute, Tiffany Cameron scored a breakway goal to seal the win off a pass from Megan Fuller.
West Virginia took the first three shots of the contest and outshot the Buckeyes 8-6 in the scoreless first half, each goalkeeper recording two saves. West Virginia led 14-11 in shots for the game, and also led in corner kicks 6-4.
Katie Baumgardner recorded four saves in goal for Ohio State.
The 4-1 Buckeyes return home Sunday to host No. 1-ranked North Carolina in a 6 p.m. match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Admission is free.
