DALLAS, Texas – The wind picked up in the afternoon and made an already tough closing stretch even tougher. Ohio State hung tough and posted a second round 295 at the Maridoe Invitational to sit in 8th place at 17-over par.
Junior Patrick Schmucking led the Buckeyes on day two with a solid round of even-par 72. He bogeyed his second hole of the day and then played the last 16 holes at 1-under par. Maxwell Moldovan rebounded from a double bogey at the opening hole with three birdies over the next 12 holes. But three bogeys to finish in breezy conditions left him with a second round 74.
JonErik Alford also carded a 74 as he played steady golf for the majority of the round, posting a pair of birdies in the middle stretch. Jackson Chandler made a team-high four birdies on the day and would finish with a 3-over 75. Freshman Jacob Tarkany rounded out the Buckeye five with a second round 78.
While sitting in eighth place, the middle of the pack is bunched, as the Buckeyes are just six shots out of fourth place. A top finish in this field would be a great start to the season as five of the Top-10 ranked teams in the country are playing this week.
The third round starts for the Buckeyes at 11 a.m. ET. They are paired with SMU and Baylor. Golf Channel will once again have coverage from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday.
