Columbus, Ohio – Constantin Christ, a sophomore on Ohio State men’s tennis team, earned victories in the second and third pre-qualifying rounds of the 2013 ITA All-American Championships after a first round bye, while Kevin Metka, a redshirt junior, won in the first and second pre-qualifying rounds before falling in the third. Following the conclusion of the pre-qualifying fourth round Monday, qualifying is slated to begin.

Christ earned a first round bye as the No. 2 seed in pre-qualifying and defeated Clemson’s Dominique Maden in the second round by a 6-3, 6-4 margin. Maden defeated Roger Ordeig of East Tennessee State by a score of 7-5, 6-3 Saturday to reach the second round Sunday. Christ’s third-round opponent was Joao Monteiro, Virginia Tech, who Christ defeated in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Christ will compete in the fourth round of pre-qualifying singles Monday at 9:30 a.m.

Metka defeated East Tennessee State’s Diego Nunez 6-3, 6-4 Saturday. In the second round of prequalifying singles, Metka faced JC Aragone of Virginia, defeating him in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Aragone advanced to the matchup with Metka by defeating Denver’s Eric Marbach 7-6 (7), 6-1. In the third round of pre-qualifying, Metka fell to Boris Arias of LSU, by a score of 3-6, 6-4 6-4.

The Buckeyes continue play at the ITA All-American championships 9:30 a.m. Monday with the final round of pre-qualifying, followed by qualifying action. Look for both Chris Diaz and Hunter Callahan to play their first matches of the tournament once qualifying singles begins.
