Buckeyes Vault to Third in Directors’ Cup Standings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the second set of winter Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, Ohio State vaulted to third place behind a second-place finish from the fencing team and a ninth-place standing from the women’s basketball Buckeyes. Stanford still claims the top spot in the standings followed by Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.

The Buckeye fencing team earned 90 points with a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. Ohio State made five appearances in the semifinal and final rounds, the most out of the 27 teams in attendance, while recording seven All-America honors in addition to one silver medal and four bronze medals. The women’s basketball Buckeyes advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second-consecutive year behind All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year Kelsey Mitchell, who averaged 22.6 points per contest. In addition, the men’s swimming and diving team finished 19th at NCAA Championships behind an All-American performance by Colin Zeng on the one-meter platform.

The points earned are in addition to a second-place wrestling finish and seventh-place standing in rifle.
