COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s swimming head coach Bill Wadley and diving head coach Justin Sochor announced the Buckeyes’ 2014-15 schedule on Monday. The competitive slate includes 12 home events at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, including the always-competitive Ohio State Invitational, which takes place Nov. 21-23.
Ohio State will kick off the season with the Scarlet vs. Gray exhibition on Oct. 17, which is followed a day later by the Alumni vs. Varsity meet. Both events occur during Ohio State’s homecoming/reunion weekend. The Buckeyes then welcome Cincinnati to the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion of Oct. 24, followed by Cleveland State on Oct. 30 and Kenyon, the defending Division III national champions, on Oct. 31.
The month of November begins with a two-day tri-meet against Princeton and Denison Nov. 7-8. The Buckeyes then have the next week off before hosting one of the annual highlights of their schedule, the Ohio State invitational. This year’s invite will take place Nov. 21-23 and feature Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Kenyon.
Ohio State will be on hiatus during the month of December from dual meet competition, but the Scarlet and Gray will take part in the USA Swimming Nationals Dec. 4-6 in Greensboro, N.C. Following winter training in Boca Raton, Fla., Ohio State will return to competition at Denison (Jan. 17). The Buckeyes remain on the road the next weekend as it tangles with Big Ten-foes Michigan State (Jan. 23) and Michigan (Jan. 24). The Buckeyes return home on Jan. 30 for a dual meet with West Virginia and then compete against Indiana and Louisville on Jan. 31.
The Scarlet and Gray will close the regular season with a dual meet versus Wright State on Feb. 7 and the Ohio State Invitational Feb. 14-15. Following the invitational, Ohio State will head to Iowa City, Iowa for the Big Ten Championships Feb. 25-28. Prelim action gets underway at 11 a.m. with the finals commencing at 6 p.m. each day.
The NCAA Last Chance Meet is scheduled for March 8. Qualified swimmers and divers then have the opportunity to travel to the 2015 NCAA Championships, taking place March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Last season, Ohio State went 10-1 in dual meet as was ranked as high as No. 4 during the season. Entering 2014-15, the Buckeyes return three first team All-Big Ten members – Matt McHugh, Michael DiSalle and Josh Fleagle.
