COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing squad kicks off its 2011 schedule Saturday at the NYU Invitational in New York, N.Y., before moving across the city to compete in the St. John’s Invitational Sunday.

The Buckeyes will face teams from NYU, Notre Dame, Columbia, Yale, Northwestern, St. John’s and Wayne State at the NYU Invitational. The event begins at 8 a.m.

The competition will be familiar Sunday at the St. John’s Invitational where the Scarlet and Gray face off against St. John’s, Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame and Penn State. Penn State (1st), St. John’s (2nd), Notre Dame (3rd), Ohio State (4th) and Harvard (5th) make up the Top 5 from the 2010 NCAA Championships.

The St. John’s Invitational begins at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Returning 2010 NCAA tournament participants for the Buckeyes include Bryan Cheney and Max Stearns (men’s sabre), Igor Tolkachev and Marco Canevari (men’s epee), Margarita Tschomakova and Alison Miller (women’s sabre) and Oksana Dmytruk and Allison Henvick (women’s foil).

The Buckeyes have finished in the Top 5 at the NCAA Championships in each of the past eight seasons.

Ohio State is 26-0 in duals this season, compiling all 26 wins against varsity and club opponents at the Ohio State Duals in November.

Following the two events this weekend, Ohio State will travel to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Notre Dame Duals Jan. 29-30.
