CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Ohio State women’s golf team tied for third with Duke at the 44th annual Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational Sunday at UNC Finley Golf Course. Both schools ended the tournament with a score of 855 after the Buckeyes carded a 282 on the final day of play, which was their best score of the season.
The Buckeyes finished three strokes back of champion Michigan State and two back of second-place Alabama.
Aneka Seumanutafa, a sophomore for the Buckeyes, was consistent all weekend as she carded 66-71-72-209. Her 7-under par score tied her for third.
“Aneka had a very steady week and was never out of play,” Therese Hession, Ohio State director of golf, said. “It was great to see her under par and challenging for the individual title.”
Senior Adeena Shears also put up a strong Top 10 performance. She shot 73-68-71-212 to end up in a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Lauren Peter ended the day with a 2-under par 70, her best score of the tournament. She finished in a tie for 36th, carding a 2-over 73-75-70-218. Yukie Sasaki, a junior, shot 73-75-71-219 to leave North Carolina in a tie for 38th. Fellow sophomore Skylar Thompson rounded out team efforts, scoring a 4-over 72-78-70-220. Individual Kristin Jamieson carded an 84-80-81-245.
“It was a real team effort and our team is continuing to learn more things about the game and how to play more efficiently,” Hession added. “I’m really proud of the way they carried themselves in the rain.”
