COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team earned a pair of victories over Kent State and Central Michigan April 9 to improve to 4-0 in Longstreth Midwest Spring League. With the wins, the Buckeyes improved to 4-0 and are tied with Louisville for first heading into the final weekend of play.

Ohio State kicked off Saturday with a 3-0 victory over host Kent State. Rising freshman Paula Pastor-Pitarque opened with an unassisted goal to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. Danica Deckard tallied the team’s final two goals with the last coming off a corner option. Berta Queralt finished the game with two assists, while Laura Napolitano had an assist on Deckard’s second goal.

Three Buckeyes scored in Ohio State’s second game of the day, giving the squad a 4-0 win over Central Michigan. Deckard put the Scarlet and Gray up 1-0 on a corner option with assists from Jenn Sciulli and Queralt. Pastor-Pitarque gave Ohio State a two-goal advantage on an unassisted goal from the left side of the circle and Queralt finished the Buckeye scoring with a pair of unassisted goals.

Both Ally Tunitis and Emma Voelker split time as goalie for the Buckeyes.

Highlighting the spring season so far has been the play of the Ohio State defense as the group has only allowed one goal through four games.

The squad concludes spring play April 16 as the team hosts Louisville and Miami (OH) at the Buckeye Varsity Field. Ohio State squares off with Louisville in a must-win game, starting at 10 a.m. The team follows with a 1 p.m. contest against the Redhawks.
