COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team registered a 195.700 to finish second at a tri-meet hosted by No. 24 Arizona on Sunday evening in the McKale Center. The Wildcats scored a 196.350 to win the meet while Bridgeport was third with a 193.250.
The Buckeyes (7-9) closed out their road slate with a pair of event titles. The squad earned a 49.175 on vault and 49.125 on floor exercise, making it the second straight week the team has won two events.
“We’re getting better every meet, we’re just hoping to continue the climb,” said head coach Meredith Paulicivic. “I’m very excited about the bars and floor teams!”
Ohio State opened the meet on uneven bars where it scored a 49.100. Jenna Swartzentruber led the charge with a 9.900 to pick up a first-place finish. Colby Miller tied for third behind a 9.850.
The Buckeyes moved on to balance beam for the second rotation and posted a 48.300. Swartzentruber once again paced the team, this time with a 9.825 to place sixth. Ella Hodges followed up with 9.800 to come in eighth.
Ohio State swept the podium on floor exercise. Hodges placed first on the apparatus after scoring a 9.875 to tie her career high. Olivia Aepli was right behind her with a 9.850, which was good enough for second place. Danica Abanto and Claire Gagliardi locked in third place behind scores of a 9.825.
The evening concluded on vault and Raina Malas tallied a 9.900 to take home silver. Morgan Lowe and Elexis Edwards both scored a 9.850 to secure third place.
The Buckeyes wrap up the regular season inside the Covelli Center when they host Pitt at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
