Noting Ohio State

  • Ohio State finished the regular season 14-13 overall and 10-8 in the Big Ten.
  • That earned the Buckeyes the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament which was higher than many thought after a 4-8 start to the season.
  • Ohio State is the defending Big Ten Tournament Champions as they won their sixth title last season.
  • This the just the third time the Buckeyes have entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed. The last time was in 2011 and they went on the win the tournament.
  • Ohio State will play Wisconsin in the second game on Thursday. The Buckeyes beat Wisconsin twice in an 11-day span in late February.
  • Three Buckeyes earned All-Big Ten accolades: Dorka Juhász 2nd Team and All-Freshman Team, Carmen Grande and Carly Santoro each earned honorable mention honors.
  • Point guard Carmen Grande is tied for 3rd in the Big Ten at 4.9 assists per game. With her 1,000th career point on Feb. 21, Grande became just the 31st player in NCAA history with more than 1,000 points and 800 assists in a career.
  • Grande is also the NCAA active assist leader for men or women with 829.
  • Dorka Juhász was named second team All-Big Ten and was named to the All-Freshman Team by the league’s 14 coaches. The Hungary native has a team-high 10 double-doubles on the season and is leading the team in both scoring (11.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg).
  • Freshman guard Janai Crooms has scored nine or more points in 15 of the last 16 games (consistent!!). She has two 20-point games this season and is shooting over 50 percent since the start of conference play.
  • Carly Santoro is also averaging in double-figures at 11.5 points per game and has a team-high eight games of 15 or more points. She also leads the team in three-pointers with 39.


Buckeyes in The Big Ten Tournament                          

  • Since 1995, when the Big Ten postseason tournament was reinstated, the Buckeyes are 38-18 and have lost their first game of the tournament only once (2008).
  • The Buckeyes have reached the tournament championship game 11 times, winning six titles (1982, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2018).
  • Ohio State has a 25-8 record overall since the 2006 tournament.
  • Ohio State’s 2006 Big Ten Tournament title was the first in program history. The Buckeyes were the No. 1 seed that year, finishing with a 63-60 win over Purdue in the final.
  • In 2011, Ohio State won the tournament as a No. 5 seed, defeating No. 4 Iowa, No. 1 Michigan State and No. 2 Penn State.
  • This is the just the third time overall that the Buckeyes are the No. 5 seed in the tournament. In addition to winning the title in 2011, OSU went 1-1 as the No. 5 seed in 1999.
  • This Buckeyes have entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed eight times. OSU won four of its six titles as the top seed.
  • Ohio State earned its first of six consecutive No. 1 seeds in the tournament in 2005, marking the first time in Big Ten history a team has captured six-straight No. 1 seeds.
  • Kelsey Mitchell was named to the All-Tournament Team three times and was the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in 2018.
