COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State dominated the pace with No. 18 UCF for the majority of the contest and came away with an impressive 4-2 victory on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Buckeyes (3-2-0) scored three goals in the first 50 minutes only to see UCF score twice in a three-minute span to tighten up the contest with 18 minutes to play. But a closing goal from forward Kayla Fischer in the 87th minute capped a five-point night for the Kent, Ohio native and the Buckeyes were on their way to their third victory of the season.

Junior Kitty Jones Black added a pair of assists on the night, giving the Buckeyes 17 assists as a team on the young season.

How it Happened

Kayla Fischer opened the scoring right away as she took a nice through ball from Kitty Jones Black and scored in the third minute. It was her third goal of the season. Kine Flotre also assisted on the play which was also her third this year.

In the 34th minute, senior Izzy Rodriguez scored an Olimpico as she bent a left-footed shot from a corner kick just over the keeper’s arms and into the top corner of the net. It was her first goal of the season.

The second half started similar to the first as Emaly Vatne fed a pass to Fischer who streaked down the left side and crossed to Emma Sears in the box. Sears buried the beautiful pass for her fourth goal of the year and the Buckeyes led 3-0 in the 50th minute.

UCF scored its two goals in a two-and-a-half-minute span. Pushing the pace, the Knights earned a corner and Katie Bradley matched Rodriguez with a score directly off a corner in the 70th minute. Ellie Moreno then found herself open in front of the net just two minutes later and her shot was saved but the rebound bounced off an OSU player and found the net.

With the momentum on the UCF side, Jones Black won a free ball in the middle of the field and started Sears on a run. She took the ball to the end line and her cross found Fischer in the box and she finished for her second goal of the night. That gave the Buckeyes some breathing room with just under four minutes to play.
