COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (3-0) women’s volleyball squad defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-2), 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) in second day action at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. OSU’s Katie Dull posted a match-high 13.5 points with 13 kills (.440) and an assist block. Samantha Chukwura had a team-high 6.5 points for Maryland-Eastern Shore with six kills and an assist block.

The Lady Hawks opened set one with a Zoe Bowens ace serve. A Dull kill tied the game at one. At two-all, a Dull-Kristen Dozier block and a Lady Hawk error gave OSU a 4-2 lead. Whitney Johnson, with a kill made it 4-3. Buckeye kills from Amanda Peterson and Dozier made it 6-3. Two OSU errors and a Christine Edwards-Chukwura block tied the game at six. A Maryland-Eastern Shore error and OSU kills from Dull and Anna Szerszen opened a 9-6 Buckeye lead. With a 14-11 margin, an ace serve from Danks, a Dull kill and a Lady Hawk error expanded the lead to six at 17-11. A four-point OSU run closed out the set for a 25-15 Buckeye win. The run began with a Dull kill. A Lady Hawk error and a Danks’ kill made it set point at 24-15. Ohio State won the set with a kill from Kelli Barhorst. The Buckeyes hit .464 for the game to .037 for Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Set two saw two lead changes and four ties, the last tie at seven-all. The Buckeyes took the lead at 10-7 with kills from Dull and Szerszen and a Chelsea Noble ace serve. At 11-9, a five-point run gave Ohio State a 16-9 lead. The run began with kills from Danks and Dull. A Danks-Barhorst block, a Dull kill and a Lady Hawk error completed the run. OSU held the lead reaching set point at 24-16 with a Dull kill. A Lady Hawk error ended the set at 25-16. OSU hit .433 for the set to .139 for Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Ohio State trailed 3-1 in the third set before a kill from Dozier and three consecutive ace serves by Danks opened a 5-3 Buckeye lead. At 7-5, two Buckeye errors tied the game at seven. Two Lady Hawk errors and a solo block from Barhorst opened a 10-7 Buckeye lead. Holding a 15-12 lead for the Buckeyes, a Lady Hawk error and kills from Dull and Ashley Hughes expanded the lead to six at 18-12. At 20-14, a Lady Hawk error and a Szerszen-Barhorst block made the margin eight at 22-14. At 23-15, an Edwards kill and a Bowens ace serve cut the lead to six at 23-17. A Maryland-Eastern Shore error set match-point at 24-17. An OSU error stopped the match point at 24-18. The Buckeyes won the game, 25-18, with a kill from Dull, to win the match, 3-0. Ohio State hit .261 for the set to -.125 for the Lady Hawks.

Ohio State hit .395 for the game to .034 for the Lady Hawks. The Buckeyes had a 40-20 margin in kills and edged Maryland-Eastern Shore, 8-6 in ace serves. OSU’s Danks posted a match-high four ace serves in the contest. The Buckeyes gave up 12 service errors to eight for the Lady Hawks. Defensively, OSU had a 37-31 edge in digs with Dull and Noble sharing match-high honors with 10 each. At the net, the Buckeyes had a 5-2 edge in team blocks. Buckeye Barhorst posted a match-high three blocks with a solo and two assists. OSU setter Peterson had a match-high 25 assists while Lady Hawk Bella Jade Romero recorded 17.
