COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s volleyball team swept Lindenwood in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) for a second time on Saturday night inside the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes move to 8-8 (7-5 MIVA) while the Lions drop to 4-11 (1-11 MIVA).
Following the match, Ohio State recognized its 2021 senior class – Robbie Murphy, Austin Gerwig, Luke Meidel and Martin Lallemand.
The Buckeyes dominated on offense with a .386 hitting percentage and limited Lindenwood to a .160 attacking clip.
Gerwig connected on 10 of his 12 error-free attempts to hit a blistering .833. Sotiris Siapanis tallied 13 kills and six digs. Lallemand chipped in 12 kills and Samuel Clark had a .500 hitting rate (7-1-12). Michael Wright dished 45 assists and posted six digs. Gerwig paced the Buckeyes on defense with four blocks while Clark and Lallemand had three rejections each.
SET 1: The Buckeyes scored four unanswered points to start the match. A Wright-Gerwig block extended the lead to 17-12 and back-to-back kills by Siapanis forced a Lindenwood timeout. Ohio State notched the last four points for a 25-16 win.
SET 2: The teams were neck and neck until three straight points put the Lions ahead 13-11. Lindenwood quickly spent both of its timeouts as Ohio State took an 18-15 lead after a 6-0 run. Gerwig put the ball down hard for a final 25-21 tally.
SET 3: Ohio State opened the frame on a 6-1 sprint. The Lions made up the difference to lock the score at 10-all and the Buckeyes responded by scoring the next four points. Kills by Siapanis and Gerwig with a Murphy ace ensured a 25-18 victory.
Ohio State wraps up its regular season on the road against Quincy April 2-3.
