COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 19 Ohio State women’s basketball team bolted to an early lead and never looked back in defeating the Indiana Hoosiers, 76-58, in front of 7,263 fans at Value City Arena.

%^$The Buckeyes were paced at the basket by forward Michaela Moua (Jr., Vantaa, Finland) who poured in 18 points off 60 percent shooting from the floor (9-of-15 FGs). Also in double figures on the afternoon were forward Marrita Porter (Sr., Louisville, Ky.), who had 16 points, and guard Lauren Shenk (Fr., Minster, Ohio), who came off the bench to provide 10 points.

%^$”Guarding [Michaela] is a tough assignment,” Ohio State head coach Beth Burns said. “She scored in the post and around them.”

%^$Ohio State went on a 27-11 run in the first 11 minutes of the game to put Indiana in a hole they never recovered from. The Hoosiers posted a rally late in the half to cut the lead to nine at the break, then got as close as seven points with 8:46 left in the contest, but that’s when the Buckeyes ran away with it.

%^$The run was spearheaded by two reserves – Shenk and center Mindy Fusetti (Sr., Orient, Ohio). On consecutive trips, Fusetti was able to rebound a Buckeye missed shot and score, the second of which extended OSU’s lead to thirteen. %^$ %^$The final nail in the coffin was provided by Shenk. The Buckeyes’ three-point specialist buried long bombs on consecutive trips, which all but ended any hopes IU had of an upset.

%^$”We focused hard on not letting them get the three-point shot off,” said Burns. “The biggest positive of the game was our aggression.”

%^$Indiana’s Jill Chapman led all scorers with 24.

%^$With the win, Ohio State’s record improves to 14-6 (7-3 Big Ten), while Indiana falls to 13-11 (2-8 Big Ten).

%^$The Buckeyes return to the court Friday evening to take on Iowa at 7:30 in Value City Arena.

%^$Jim Izard’s quotes

%^$”Jill Chapman and Cindy Kerns carried us offensively.”

%^$”I thought at halftime, we would win the game. I thought we would start shooting the ball better in the second half.”

%^$”We thought Chapman would be a sub before the season started. Now, she and Marrita Porter may be the best inside players in the league.”
