COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State held Cincinnati to just 10 points after halftime and just one point in the fourth quarter to turn a one-point halftime deficit into an 80-38 rout Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena.

The Buckeyes snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 6-3 on the season. UC falls for just the second time this season and is now 6-2.

Ohio State struggled for the second-straight game in the opening half, shooting 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) and trailed 28-27 at the break. But in the second half, the Buckeyes turned the tables by shooting 65 percent and held UC to 3-of-37 (8.1 percent) shooting which included 0-of-19 in the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 23 points on 4-of-6 from long range. She is now just 23 points shy of 2,000 for her career. Alexa Hart notched her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.

Shanice Johnson led the Bearcats with her own double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Ohio State returns to action this Wednesday when it hosts SWAC foe Southern at 7 p.m.

Postgame Notes

  • The 27 points in the first half were the Buckeyes second fewest points in a half this season and it rebounded with the third-most in the second half with 53.
  • This was the fourth time OSU has trailed at halftime this year and the first time it was able to come back and win the game.
  • The Buckeyes have now shot 70 percent (42-of-60) in the second half of each of the last two games.
  • All nine Buckeyes that dressed for the game scored at least three points
  • Ohio State grabbed 54 rebounds in the game, marking the fifth time in the first nine games with 50 or more rebounds. That happened just three times all of last season
  • The Buckeyes were the worst Power 5 conference team in scoring defense (76.3 ppg) coming into the game and allowed a season-low 38 points to UC.
  • The 38 points were tied for the fewest points the Buckeyes have given up under head coach Kevin McGuff, matching the 52-38 victory over Appalachian State on Dec. 20, 2013
  • The 11-point deficit was the largest deficit overcome in a victory for the Buckeyes since coming back from a 15-point hole against No. 10 Texas A&M last season on Nov. 28, 2015
  • Ohio State was 12-of-14 from the free throw line for a season-best 85.7 percent
  • Cincinnati led for 19:36 in the game while the Buckeyes were ahead for just 18:34
  • Shayla Cooper grabbed 10 rebounds for her fourth game this season with 10 or more rebounds
  • Kelsey Mitchell notched 20 or more points for the 62nd time in her career and is now just 23 points from becoming the fastest player in NCAA history to record 2,000 career points
