COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team began competition at the 2015 NCAA Championships on Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa. Receiving points in both relay events contested, the Buckeyes rank 17th in the team standings with 17 points overall. Competition will resume Friday, with prelims slated for an 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET start time.

In finals of the 200 freestyle relay, the Buckeyes earned 12th with a time of 1:17.87. Collecting nine points toward the team effort, Ohio State’s quartet was comprised of Josh Fleagle, Matt McHugh, Andrew Appleby and Michael DiSalle. The group qualified for the `B’ final with the 15th-fastest time among the field in prelims. Ohio State posted a preliminary time of 1:17.81, which was a season-best and the third-fastest time registered in Ohio State history.

The Buckeyes were also impressive in the 400 medley relay, backed by performances from Steven Zimmerman, DJ MacDonald, McHugh and DiSalle. Ohio State placed 13th overall in the event, recording a time of 3:07.45. Similar to the 200 freestyle relay, Ohio State posted a season-best mark in prelims to qualify for the evening session. The Buckeyes’ preliminary time of 3:06.81 was just off the school record-time of 3:06.63 set in 2014.

In prelims, rookie Brayden Seal competed in the 500 freestyle event, earning a time of 4:22.97 for 48th place. Fleagle was Ohio State’s top finisher in the 50 freestyle. A native of St. Mary’s, Ohio, Fleagle touched 35th with a time of 19.70.

Two Buckeye divers – Stephen Ettienne and Shane Miszkiel – suited up for the one-meter springboard event. Ettienne posted a score of 295.75 for 40th, while Miszkiel followed closely with a 292.25 for 41st.
