Buckeyes Sign Four to Compete in 2021


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four student-athletes signed on the dotted line to join the Ohio State softball team for the 2021 season. Taylor Heckman, Destinee Noury, Emily Ruck and Allison Smith submitted their National Letters of Intent to wear the Scarlet and Gray.

“What a tremendous group of young women!” said head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly. “We are beyond thrilled to announce this class. We are excited to bring a group committed to growing as people, both in the classroom and on the field.”

Taylor Heckman | OF | Utica, Ohio | Utica High School

Picked up first team All-Ohio laurels as a sophomore and junior…Selected as a first team All-Licking County League and All-Central District performer every year…Helped Utica to three consecutive Licking County League Championship crowns…Currently plays club ball for the Lasers Blue…Also earned all-conference and all-district recognition as a member of the basketball team.

Coach Schoenly on Taylor: “Taylor brings grit and athleticism to the program. She’s a multi-sport athlete that has had success due to her fire on the field and court. She’s a left-handed hitter that will most likely be a table setter for our program and a true outfielder with all the skills needed to thrive out there.”

Destinee Noury | INF | Chula Vista, Calif. | Mater Dei Catholic High School

Three-time second team All-Metro Mesa League honoree…Helped Mater Dei to three straight Mesa League Championship titles…Won the CIF San Diego Section Girls Softball Championship with the Crusaders as a junior…Spent part of her club career with the Athletics Mercado, where she won the PGF Premier National Championship in 2016…Has played in three PGF National Championship games…Currently plays travel ball for the Batbusters.

Coach Schoenly on Destinee: “Destinee is a phenomenal infielder that hits for power. She has tremendous hands, arm strength and game savviness. Not only does she know the game and have the skills, but she also understands how to run a defense. She has been that leader for her teams through the years.”

Emily Ruck | P | Westerville, Ohio | Westerville Central

Received first team All-OCC and All-Ohio recognition as a junior…Earned first team All-District honors twice…Was a 2018 first team All-Mid-State League honoree…Struck out 10 batters to help Westerville Central win its first regional title during her junior campaign…Currently plays club ball for the Lasers Blue.

Coach Schoenly on Emily: “Emily brings a unique style to the mound for us. She has elite spin on her pitches that generate rare movement. She has a great blend of tenacity, skill and competitiveness. I am excited to see her develop throughout her career.”

Allison Smith | P | Champion, Ohio | Champion High School

Led Champion to three consecutive Ohio State Championship crowns…Was a 2019 second team All-American…Tabbed as a first team All-AAC selection every year…Three-time WKBN Diamond King…Her 51 career home runs are the most in Ohio history…Also owns records for single-season home runs, RBI and runs scored…Went 16-0 in the circle with a 0.14 ERA and 215 strikeouts as a junior…Ranked 34th in the Extra Innings Softball Class of 2020…Currently plays travel ball for the Beverly Bandits.

Coach Schoenly on Allison: “Allison is a winner. A three-time state champion in softball that also competes in golf and basketball, she wants to compete and win. She will be a force on the mound for the Buckeyes. She is a power player that has a tremendous presence in the circle as well as being a force in our offensive lineup.”
