COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf program added two elite recruits to their roster for the 2019-20 season in Maxwell Moldovan and Adam Wallin.

Maxwell Moldovan, a product of Uniontown, Ohio, has been the most dominant junior golfer in the country in 2019 and as a result was just recently named 2019 Rolex Junior Player of the Year by the AJGA, most prominent award in junior golf. The incoming freshman has won at every level he has competed, bursting onto the scene when won the 2017 OHSAA Division I Ohio State Tournament as a sophomore at Green High School while setting the 18 hole scoring record in the second and final round. He was also named an AJGA First Team All-American, becoming only the fourth Buckeye to earn the award (Brian Mogg 1978, Chris Smith 1988, and Ryan Armour 1993).

Moldovan followed up with 14 top-10 finishes across the junior circuits in 2018 including wins at the NOPGA Junior Series, Golfweek Junior Tour Championship, and PGA Junior Qualifier. He also secured his second state title, earning co-medalist honors with now teammate Jackson Chandler, to become the 19th player in Ohio history to win two OHSAA state titles.

The 2019 season proved to be his best yet as Moldovan rocketed to the top of the Polo Junior Golf Rankings, making him the best junior golfer in the country. The Ohio native captured both the Ohio Amateur and AJGA Polo Junior Golf Classic titles in route to six top-10 finishes in the last calendar year. Two of those top-10s came at the Junior PLAYERS Championship and U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Following the U.S. Junior Amateur, Moldovan made it to the second round of match play in the U.S. Amateur played at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. With his outstanding performances, Moldovan was selected to play in the Wyndham Cup where he won all four of his matches and earned a spot on the U.S. Junior President’s Cup team which will be played the week of the President’s Cup at famed Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.

Ohio State’s second signee, Adam Wallin, has had a great deal of success across the globe. The Swedish native is currently ranked inside the top-10 of the European Golf Rankings 18 and under division and has earned that status with six top-10 finishes across Europe in the last year.

The incoming freshman finished second at both the 2019 Junior Masters Invitational and Swedish Teen Tour Elite #6, while also bringing home a third-place finish at the Swedish Teen Tour Elite #4. Wallin showed his prowess on the course with top-5 finishes at the European Boys Team Championship in 2018 and 2019, a tournament in which over 15 countries across the continent send their best junior golfers to compete. He also has twice competed as a member of the Continent of Europe team for the Jacques Leglise Trophy, an elite junior match play event.

“We are obviously thrilled to sign what we believe is the nation’s top recruiting class,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “Adam and Maxwell have earned significant recognition and awards as a result of their performances on the course in elite junior competition. By the time they arrive on campus they will both have multiple experiences in international team competition which is the highest level of junior golf- most of which is valuable match play competition. In addition to their world-class talent both Adam and Maxwell possess the character and leadership qualities to be exemplary ambassadors for our program.”
