COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team is set to make its 23rd appearance at the NCAA Championships Friday through Sunday after securing an at-large bid, one of 11, following a second-place finish at the 2023 Big Ten Championship May 14 in Indianapolis.
The Buckeyes are one of four Big Ten teams to compete in the 2023 NCAA Championships. The NCAA event is being held at the Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, N.J.
The First Varsity Eight kicks things off 9:24 a.m. Friday in the third heat. The Second Varsity Eight is in the first heat in that event with a 9:48 a.m. start. The Buckeyes are in the final heat of the First Varsity Four event. That race starts at 11:12 a.m.
The Ohio State 1V8 enters the championships as the No. 14 seed. The 2V8 is the No. 8 seed and the 1V4 is the No. 12 seed.
The Buckeyes are one of 22 teams who will compete at the championships. Each school will field two eight boats and one four boat for the championship event.
BUCKEYES IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ohio State comes into the championships having competed in each NCAA regatta held since 2000 (23 total). The Buckeyes own seven individual boat titles and has finished in the Top-10 as a team a total of 21 times.
The Buckeyes won NCAA national titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The team finished second in 2016 and owns one third (2007) and two fourth-place (2001, 2005) finishes. Ohio State placed eighth in 2022.
The 2023 NCAA Championships will be the third for Kate Sweeney as head coach of the Buckeyes. She guided Ohio State to an eighth-place finish a season ago. Click HERE for the 2022 NCAA Championship results.

Ohio State narrowly missed repeating as Big Ten Champions May 14 after a third-place finish in the final event of the championship (1V8) left the Buckeyes (169) five points behind Michigan (174) for the 2023 league championship. For more click HERE.

Notes:
Ohio State is racing its sixth regatta of the season and fifth on the road. The Buckeyes opened the season at the IVY/Big Ten Duals March 25 in Camden, New Jersey, site of the 2023 NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes faced host Yale and Harvard-Radcliff at the event.
Virginia then played host to the Big Ten/ACC Regatta March 31–April 1 in Charlottesville. Ohio State won six races against the Cavaliers (2) and Duke (4).
Ohio State then traveled to the Big Ten Invite April 8 and came away with 10 wins over the two-day event.
The Buckeyes won six-of-seven races in a regatta vs. Indiana and Michigan State April 22 at the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus.
This is the fourth season under Sweeney’s direction. She guided the Buckeyes to an eighth-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Championships and to a Big Ten Title at the 2022 Big Ten Championships.
