BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Ohio State came out firing early and never looked back as it blew past Indiana Thursday night 103-49 in Assembly Hall.
The Buckeyes (11-5, 3-1 B1G), who have now won seven of the last eight, set the tone early with a 21-2 run right out of the locker room. OSU hit six three-pointers in the first eight and half minutes and would lead 49-17 at halftime.
The 103 points were the most points Ohio State has scored in a B1G game since scoring 105 in a 105-68 victory over Northwestern on Feb. 9, 1996. This was also the most points ever scored by a Buckeye team against Indiana.
Junior Ameryst Alston led five Buckeyes in double-figures with 27 points. She also added six assists and four rebounds.
Freshman Kelsey Mitchell did her thing again on Thursday, scoring 25 points, dishing-out a season-high eight assists and grabbing a season-high nine rebounds. She was 5-of-5 from three-point range and matched Alston with a team-high three steals.
Fellow freshman Alexa Hart has battled foul trouble the last few games but on Thursday, she stayed out of foul trouble and showed her form. She finished with 18 points, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
Junior Cait Craft finished with 14 points which was her first game in double-figures since Dec. 11. Sophomore Shayla Cooper tied Mitchell with a team-high nine rebounds and added 10 points on 3-of-5 from the floor.
Indiana was led by 14 points from Jess Walter.
It was all Buckeyes, all night. They opened the game on a 21-2 run and was in complete control the whole game. Ohio State shot 63.1 percent from the floor, which was its best shooting performance of the year. It held IU to just 28 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers. The Buckeyes were also 10-of-16 from long range for a season-best 62.5 percent.
Ohio State led 49-17 at the break and continued to push the lead the rest of the way. IU had an 8-0 run at one point in the second half but it was too little, too late.
The Buckeyes wasted little time in taking control of the gameas it opened the game on a 21-2 run.
Ohio State got five three-pointers from four different playersduring the spurt.
Indiana made just one of its first 12 shots and had threeturnovers.
The Buckeyes were 8-of-13 from the floor in the first eight and ahalf minutes.
Whole Lot of Points
The Buckeyes scored 103 points tonight which is the most pointsfor an Ohio State team in Assembly Hall.
That broke the previous record of 81 which was set in an 81-67victory in Bloomington on Jan. 17, 1993.
The 103 points were also the most points ever scored against theHoosiers, topping the 99 scored in a 99-58 victory over IU inColumbus on Feb. 12, 1993.
This was also the first time the Buckeyes scored 100 points in aB1G game since scoring 105 in a 105-68 victory over Northwestern onFeb. 9, 1996.
Ohio State remains on the road as it heads to that state upnorth for a date with the Wolverines on Sunday.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from Crisler Arena.
The two teams split the two meetings last year with each teamwinning on the others home floor.
