COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 2 Ohio State continued its early dominance with another convincing 4-0 victory over Oregon in the championship match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday.

The Buckeyes are now 7-0 on the season and have surrendered just one point in those seven matches.

The doubles matches were a tussle but wins on courts two and three gave the Buckeyes the point and they used that momentum to win all six first sets in singles and cruise to the victory.

Ohio State advances to the ITA Indoor National Championships for the 16th time in program history. The Buckeyes won the title in 2014 and 2019. The championships will be held at the XS Tennis Village in downtown Chicago on February 17-20.

Doubles

  • Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy were the first Buckeye pair to earn a service break and finished first defeating the Oregon’s duo of Jesper Klov-Nilsson and Luke Vandecasteele 6-3 on court three.
  • Ohio State’s Andrew Lutschaunig and James Trotter came up just short against Oregon’s Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele 7-6(5) in an electrifying battle on court one.
  • Robert Cash and Justin Boulais sealed the deal for the Buckeyes on court two just seconds after the tie break on court one ended. They won 7-5 and remain undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0.

Singles

  • The Buckeyes breezed in the singles matches, winning quickly on courts two, five and six.
  • Cash was first done as he beat Ray Lo 6-1, 6-1 for his fifth singles win on the year.
  • Trotter followed right next door as he took down Vlad Breazu 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 6-0 on the young season.
  • The clinching point came from Kingsley on court two. He rolled Quinn Vandecasteele 6-2, 6-2 to remain perfect during the dual season.
  • Boulias had won the first set on court one and was on his way as he was up a break in the second. Tracy also won the first set and was tied 4-4 in the second. Alexander Bernard battled on court four and won his opening set 7-5.
