COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the first set of spring Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, Ohio State remains in second place behind a national championship from the men’s volleyball team. Stanford still claims the top spot in the standings followed by Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and USC.
The men’s volleyball Buckeyes, behind MIVA Coach of the Year Pete Hanson, earned their third national title since 2011, defeating No. 3 BYU in straight sets earlier this month in front of a home crowd of 8,205 in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes, who finished the season with an overall record of 32-2, were paced by NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Nicolas Szerszen along with fellow All-Tournament team members Christy Blough, Driss Guessous, Maxime Hervoir and Blake Leeson.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA’s website at www.directorscup.org.
The next Division I standings will be released Thursday, June 8.
