Buckeyes Receive USFCA All-America and All-Region Accolades

Share

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Twelve members of the Ohio State fencing program have been named All-Americans by the United States Fencing Coaches Association, the organization announced this week. Each year the USFCA recognizes the outstanding work of fencing student-athletes by naming All-Americans based on their achievements in the national championship, however, because the championships were canceled this year, All-America honors were based on each fencer’s overall body of work through the season competitions and NCAA Regionals.

In addition, the USFCA introduced the addition of an all-region award, based on result and field size at each of the NCAA Regionals. Fifteen Buckeyes were named to the Midwest All-Region Team.

Ohio State shared the national lead with 12 All-America selections. Seniors Domenik Koch and Sarah Merza each end their Buckeye careers as four-time All-Americans. Koch is the eighth Ohio State men’s fencer to earn four All-America accolades, while Merza is the program’s ninth women’s fencer to be a four-time All-American. Senior Gabriella Cecchini wraps up her career as a three-time All-American and junior Camilla Rivano is now a three-time honoree. Three of the Buckeyes’ 2020 First Team All-Americans are freshmen, joined by two sophomores.

The 12 Buckeye All-Americans were all selected for the 2020 NCAA Championships. Learn more about the standouts HERE.
