COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team is ranked 13th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) Preseason Poll released this week. The Buckeyes are one of five American Lacrosse Conference teams to begin the season in the Top 20, tying the ACC for the most teams from one league.

Led by veteran defenders Tayler Kuzma and Heather Gravinese, along with sophomore attacker Jackie Cifarelli and classmate Tori DeScenza in goal, Ohio State has eight starters and 20 letterwinners returning from a year ago. The Buckeyes finished the campaign rated 15th by the IWLCA, which is recognized as the official ranking, after completing the season 11-6 with their second-consecutive trip to the ALC Tournament semifinals.

In other polls, the Buckeyes also were selected 13th by Lacrosse Magazine and came in 20th in the preseason deBeer Media Poll.

Ohio State opens the 2013 campaign with a 2 p.m. game Feb. 16 at Louisville. Following a midweek road contest at William & Mary, the team will return for its home opener Feb. 23 against Boston College, currently scheduled for 1 p.m. on the outdoor turf field adjacent to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Admission to the game, and to all regular-season home games, is free.
