COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s cross country team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., this Friday, Sept. 13, for the Big Ten Preview meet.
Two weeks removed from a season-opening win at the Flyer 5k Challenge, the Buckeyes head to West Lafayette in hopes of sustaining their early-season momentum. The Friday meet also provides a preview of this season’s Big Ten championship course (Purdue hosts the conference meet Nov. 3) and an opportunity to run against several of the top teams in the conference.
The 8k event at Boilermaker Cross Country Course is slated for 6:00 p.m. ET. A complete recap will available after the race at www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
Redd Named Big Ten Runner of the Week
Sophomore Jordan Redd was named the Big Ten Runner of the Week by the league office Sept. 3.
Redd recorded his first collegiate victory Aug. 31 at the Flyer 5k Challenge. The Fairborn, Ohio, native led the 72-man field, crossing the finish line in a time of 15:37.9. The weekly honor is the first of Redd’s career and the first for Ohio State since Jake Edwards took home the award in September of 2011.
Buckeyes Ranked Eighth in Great Lakes Region Preseason Poll
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason regional cross country rankings Aug. 26, with Ohio State checking-in at No. 8 in the Great Lakes region. Wisconsin, ranked seventh nationally, is the No. 1-ranked team in the region. 21st-ranked Indiana is second, followed by Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Butler and the Buckeyes.

Redd ran a first-place time of 15:37.9 as Ohio State opened the 2013 season with a team victory at the Dayton Flyer 5k Challenge in Kettering, Ohio.
Ohio State totaled a team score of 30 to defeat runner-up IUPUI by 12 points. The Buckeyes placed four runners in the Top 10: Redd, redshirt sophomore Brian Hannaford (15:43.5), sophomore Nick Pupino (15:44.6) and redshirt sophomore Jeff Hannaford (15:59.6).
Ohio State has two weeks off prior to an Oct. 4 trip to the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
