Ohio State, alumni travel to Florida to compete for bragging rights in 18-hole event

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a three-month hiatus, the Ohio State women’s golf team will prepare for its spring schedule by hosting an alumni match-up Jan. 31 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Competing on the par 72 Wanderers Course at Wellington, the 18-hole tournament will pair current Buckeyes with talented alumni from Ohio State and other programs.

Buckeyes making the trip to Florida include freshmen Rachel Rohanna and Susana Benavides, sophomores Nara Shin and Vicky Villanueva, junior In Hong Lim and senior captain Emma Jandel. The match will mark the fourth event of the season for Lim, Villanueva, Rohanna and Benavides and the third for Jandel and Shin.

On the alumni side, Lisa Strom, Allison Hanna and Meg Mallon will represent Ohio State, while Meaghan Francella, Beth Daniel and Stacy Lewis will represent North Carolina, Furman and Arkansas, respectively. All six competing alumni are current or former members of the LPGA Tour.

The format of the tournament will consist of a pair of current Buckeyes teeing off against a pair of alumnae. Rohanna and Shin will face Strom and Francella, Lim and Benavides will play against Hanna and Lewis, and Jandel and Villanueva will be matched against Mallon and Daniel.

The 18-hole course will be broken into six holes of best ball, alternative shot and regular play. There will be a possible four points per match.

After concluding their match in Florida, the Buckeyes will face a quick turnaround when they host the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 8-10 in Palos Verdes, Calif.
