Buckeyes Post Highest Score of the Season


The Ohio State University Rifle Team hosted their first home competitions of the season on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s match was a four team affair with the Buckeyes posting a team score of 4651 while competing against Murray State, Nevada, and UTEP. In smallbore, the team fired a season best equaling score of 2313 and were led by a balanced performance from Rhiann Travis (580), Ariel Hall (580), Elizabeth Dutton (578), Jacob Buchanan (575), and Jared Minor (564). Firing as individuals, Quintin Wotring led the way with a score of 576 followed by Brendan Whitaker (573), Bailey Urbach (572), Anna Tomb (570), Annabelle Stanec (567), Michael Steinel (567), Mica Harr (557), Wynn Lekhavanija (550), Patrick Sardo (547), and Megan Wilcoxson (542).

In air rifle, Ohio State posted a team score of 2338 led by a pair of 587s from Jacob Buchanan and Rhiann Travis. They were followed by Ariel Hall (583), Elizabeth Dutton (581), and Jared Minor (569). Michael Steinel fired a season best 593 to lead the way for the individuals. He was followed by Annabelle Stanec (588), Bailey Urbach (587), Mica Harr (587), Anna Tomb (582), Megan Wilcoxson (578), Wynn Lekhavanija (577), Quintin Wotring (574), Patrick Sardo (571), and Brendan Whitaker (567).


Ohio State Buckeyes

On Sunday, the Buckeyes matched up against Murray State and posted a season best score of 4664. In smallbore, the team fired a score of 2308 led by a 584 from Rhiann Travis. She was followed by Michael Steinel (576), Ariel Hall (576), Jacob Buchanan (572), and Elizabeth Dutton (569). The individuals were led by Bailey Urbach who fired a 575. She was followed by Jared Minor (567), Mica Harr (565), Patrick Sardo (563), Quintin Wotring (561), Annabelle Stanec (558), Wynn Lekhavanija (557), and Anna Tomb (551)

In air rifle, Ohio State fired a team score of 2356 with a well-rounded effort from Elizabeth Dutton (590), Rhiann Travis (590), Michael Steinel (588), Annabelle Stanec (588), and Jacob Buchanan (583). Ariel Hall fired a career best 591 to lead the way for the individuals. She was followed by Anna Tomb (586), Mica Harr (585), Bailey Urbach (582), Megan Wilcoxson (581), Wynn Lekhavanija (580), Patrick Sardo (579), Jared Minor (574), and Quintin Wotring (572). Coach Tanoue said,

“There was certainly a level of comfort in competing at home for the first time this season and that showed in our performance. Overall it was mission accomplished in firing our highest score of the season and also seeing several career and season best performances throughout the team. We are making strides in the right direction and we’ll have another chance to test ourselves at home against TCU next Sunday.”

The Buckeyes return to action on Sunday, November 18 against TCU.
