AKRON, Ohio — On the opening day of the 2016 NCAA Rifle Championships, Ohio State fired a 2308 in the smallbore competition and currently stands in seventh place. The air rifle portion of the competition will take place on Saturday at the University of Akron.

Individually for the Buckeyes, senior Remington Lyman led the way with a 579 which was 23rd in the 44 shooter field. Sophomore Drew Cheezum was right behind Lyman with a 578 while freshman Michael Steinel posted a 576 in his first NCAA Championship. Junior Anthony Cuozzo followed with a 575 and sophomore Mark Matheny rounded-out the team scoring with a 573.

The Buckeyes will look to move up the leaderboard on Saturday in what has proven to be their stronger of the two disciplines this season. OSU has set the air rifle school-record on a number of occasions and will try to top the current mark of 2369 once again on Saturday.

The first relay in the air rifle competition is set to begin at 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning. The second relay will start at 12:15 p.m. and the individual finals will be at 2:30 p.m.
