COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten announced its 2011 men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll and players to watch list on Tuesday, with defending champion Indiana earning top honors among the seven conference teams and Ohio State claiming the second position.

The Hoosiers enter the season as the conference favorites after winning their 12th Big Ten title in 2010. The Buckeyes finished second to Indiana a year ago and have had a Top 2 finish in four out of the last five years. Indiana compiled a 4-1-1 record in Big Ten play last season en route to the conference crown. At No. 2, Ohio State matching its finish from a year ago. Penn State follows at No. 3, jumping up a spot from last year’s fourth-place campaign.

Michigan, after winning its first Big Ten Tournament title and advancing to last year’s NCAA College Cup semifinals, clocks in at No. 4. Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin round out the poll. The complete preseason coaches’ poll, along with the players to watch list, can be found below.

The 2011 season officially kicks off on Friday, with Michigan and Northwestern opening play. Ohio State takes to the pitch at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against American in the Penn State Classic in State College, Pa.
