COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference released its women’s basketball preseason All-Big Ten team as well as the projected top-five teams on Wednesday. The Buckeyes were selected to finish second by the coaches and third by the media. Senior guards Taylor Mikesell and Jacy Sheldon were selected to the preseason all-conference team by both the coaches and media.

In 2021-22, the Buckeyes won a share of the Big Ten regular season championship after finishing the conference schedule with a 14-4 record. Ohio State did not lose to an unranked Big Ten team last season. The Buckeyes went on to earn a six-seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2017 by beating Missouri State in the first round and No. 8/9 (three-seed and host) LSU in the second round. OSU also earned ranked wins against No. 12/11 Maryland and No. 21/24 Iowa.

Sheldon, a unanimous choice for the preseason team by both the coaches and media, was an AP All-American Honorable Mention last season. She was also named to the Wade Watch List and was a regional finalist for the WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team. A unanimous selection for the 2022 All-Big Ten First Team by the coaches, Sheldon was also selected by the media to the All-Big Ten First Team and by the coaches to the All-Big Defensive Team last season. Sheldon scored her 1,000th career point in January 2022 as she led the team in scoring with 19.7 points per game. She earned a spot on the Academic Big-Ten team and was an OSU Scholar-Athlete.

Mikesell, a unanimous choice for the preseason team by the coaches, was one of five finalists for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award last season. She was also a regional finalist for the WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team by both the coaches and the media. Mikesell led the Buckeyes in scoring during Big Ten games with 19.9 ppg. She was atop of the Big Ten in three-point shooting, making 114 triples on the season, averaging 3.6 per game and shooting .475 from behind the arc – all figures that were second in the country. Her 114 triples was the most in program history by anyone not named Kelsey Mitchell and ranks 17th on the program’s career list despite only playing one season as a Buckeye.

The Buckeyes host Notre Dame College for an exhibition on Halloween before opening the regular season at home against Tennessee on Nov. 8 at 8:30 p.m. in a game broadcast on BTN. View the full 2022-23 schedule HERE.
