COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over Iowa Sunday afternoon in the first outdoor match in Columbus this season. The Buckeyes improve to 14-2 on the season with their 11th win in a row and are 3-0 in Big Ten play. Iowa (8-8, 0-4 B1G) claimed the doubles point, but the Buckeyes posted five singles wins, including four in straight sets, for the victory. Kolie Allen led the Buckeyes with wins in both singles and doubles vs. the Hawkeyes.
Freshman Kolie Allen and senior Andrea Ballinger were the first off the doubles courts. The duo posted a 6-3 victory over Sophie Clark and Danielle Bauers on court two. Minutes later, court one finished up in favor of the Hawkeyes. Elise Van Huevelen and Ashleigh Jacobs edged out No. 35-ranked Isabelle Boulais and Shiori Fukuda in a 6-3 finish.
The doubles decision came down to court three. Danielle Wolf and Luna Dormet were down initially, coming back to tie the match at 5-5. Samantha Mannix and Michelle Bacalla served to win the next game and then broke to take the match, 7-5, and the doubles point.
In singles, redshirt junior Danielle Wolf dropped just three games on court five against Michelle Bacalla (6-3, 6-0) for a 1-1 match score. No. 78-ranked Shiori Fukuda posted the next win, defeating Elise Van Heuvelen, 6-3, 6-1, on court one.
On court three, Buckeye freshman and No. 55-ranked Isabelle Boulais faced Samantha Mannix of the Hawkeyes. Boulais began the first set down by a few games. She quickly caught up and tied the set, 6-6, and prevailed in the tiebreak. In the second set, Boulais rolled quickly, finishing up the match with a 6-1 victory.
On court three, freshman Kolie Allen, ranked 61st, won the first set 6-0 but dropped the second, 6-2, against Sophie Clark. The Buckeye controlled the third, winning 6-1, to clinch the team victory.
Ashleigh Jacobs of the Hawkeyes was the next to finish with a victory over Luna Dormet, 6-3, 6-3, on court four. The last match to conclude was court six. Mary Beth Hurley took down Danielle Burich in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, giving the Buckeyes the final score of 5-2 over the Hawkeyes.
Fukuda and Hurley have both posted seven consecutive wins. Allen leads the Buckeyes with 14 dual match singles wins.
The Buckeyes hit the road next weekend, traveling to that state up north to face two Big Ten foes, taking on Michigan State at 5 p.m. Friday and Michigan at 1 p.m. Sunday.
